This webinar will focus on optimizing sample submissions to reference laboratories for urinalysis, parasitology, microbiology, cytology, and histopathology to maximize the accuracy and effectiveness of diagnostic testing.
Learning Objectives
- Understand how best to submit various samples to a reference diagnostic laboratory, such as blood, urine, feces, cytology and biopsy samples, and samples for culture, and understand the limitations of inadequate or poorly prepared samples.
- Gain skills in techniques of sample preparation.
- Be able to adapt sample collection to the unique characteristics of a patient and/or the disease, and how in-clinic diagnostic testing complements reference lab testing.
Speaker Bio
Saundra Willis, DVM, DACVIM
Dr. Sandy Willis is a small animal internist in Global Diagnostic Consulting for Zoetis Reference Laboratories, formerly Phoenix Lab. She has worked in the field of reference laboratory since 1993 and enjoys the overlap of diagnostic testing with internal medicine.
Dr. Willis currently serves on the AVMA Board as District XI Director, serving Washington, Oregon, Alaska, Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming. She most recently served as chair of the AVMA House Advisory Committee and represented Washington as a delegate to the AVMA House of Delegates. Dr. Willis is most proud to have served in the WSVMA and former Puget Sound VMA. She received the honor of WSVMA Veterinarian of the Year in 2015.
Dr. Willis is board certified by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM). She completed her residency in small animal internal medicine at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Saskatchewan, Canada, and her internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the University of Minnesota. Dr. Willis is a 1984 graduate of the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine.
Dr. Willis is president of the Board of the Feral Cat Spay and Neuter Project in Lynnwood, Washington. She serves as staff support to rescued “kittens” Fiona and Micki.
